Saturday night at the movies (silent hill)

Silent hill 3

Saturday I took a friend out. With some other friends (* how lame does that sound)… to the movies. The original plan was to watch fast and the furious 3 : Tokyo drift. However we got there late and the only other thing that was worth watching was apparently silent hill 3. this movie was originally a video game and even in the movie it still felt the same way. Extremely cheesy dialect. Stupid actions of a woman.. and just pure evil.. I mean pure unnecessary evil.

Now to address the evil intent that manifested it self within this movie. Every one know s the days of good always winning is basically over however. This movie just went far. Nothing good came of it. Not 1 thing. All that was granted was revenge. And death on parties (both the protagonists and antagonists). So nobody won but evil.. kinda weird. This is probably one of those movies that you should shield your eyes from. No real purpose just dark, sick evil sadistic satanic stuff. The movie was well executed however
The director knew what he was doing. There were some pretty neat thriller like moments. Esp this lil dance –ish like scene with some sexy (but gross, but had lots of cleavage I mean really nice racks..) dead nurses sorta doing the Michael Jackson thriller thing.. was kinda funny. I’ld probably give silent hill 3.5 darkness’s out of 5

horrible work day :(

so i decided. i'm not taking my note book, its heavy. and it annoys me when i have to be transfering things back and forth to and from my work terminal, cuase they dont have me on the network (laptop). so i just said to hell with it no more laptop to work.

got to work.. the server that i do coding on was down for like an hour, finally it came back up (the decided to plug it back in) then i updated the copy of the project i'm working on that was on my laptop from my thumbdrive, and pulled down the latest copy of the db from the live test site and ran the queries to populate the local test db. everything was ready. on loading the home page.. no contnet and nothing but errors in the retrieval queries. reason the lame lil box is running mysql clinet 3.23.49.. wtf. mysql is up to 5.1 now do something bout that nuh... so my queries aren't working i need to test some stuff i cant do anything. this some serious bullshit man. so i either have to downgrade my queries to use mysql 3.23... date functions which i would have to update when i'm about ot put on the live server which is running a mysql client versino of at least 4.1 (the beggining of the date() implementation.. (I'M NOT DOING THAT). someone needs to update the mysql client version on the testing server like right now.

nwc and jutc strike

National wather commission and Jamaica urban transport company decided they were gonna strike.. the jutc strike strated yesterday at 5pm (yeh when i get off from work) so there was no bus to take me home.. nice work you assholes. eventually i get something. i get home about 6:30 or 7, take a 30 minute nap, then about at 8 i said time for a shower....... NO WATER. (these nwc bastards) and i'm one of the unfortunate ones who dont have a tank so i mean there was no water.

fastforward to 6:00 am in the morning. Wake up start preping for work.. shower time. .still no water (jutc has resumed their work so i figured hopefuloy nwc did the same). still nothing. its now 7:39, still nothing.

this is my question, is it legal to just turn off everybody's water like that. i mean we get it.. ohhh your important to the whole island but wtf.... seriously you cant possible do that. i say king fish raids nwc workers right this very moment cuase this is some serious bull.... i'm missing work at a very crucial moment (close to the roll out phase of my application)

Development Frameworks Are the Future

I came upon quite allot of web development frame works and i just wanted to share with everyone who doesn't know.. as a web developer you probably sometimes hate your life.. esp with applications that require lots of c.r.u.d (creation,retrieval, updating, and deletion) that part of the application is generally the most annoying,, tedious and just overall disgusting.
during one application i was approached by 2 other clients to start developing an application for each and i was so sick when i started.. i was doing the same thing x3 (for each application) so now I'm investigating different php frameworks, not exclusively php but rather web development framework (ruby, python etc..)

Now onto the frameworks. I've mainly been doing reading on p.r.a.d.o (php rapid application development object-oriented), followed by turbo gears and trailing last is ruby on rail, each frame work utilizing a different underlying language for the dynamic processing (php, python and ruby in the respective order). so far I'm mostly interested in Prado and turbo gears. I'm seeing easy utilization of Ajax technology in very innovative ways, which intrigues me.

the next step i plan to take in rich web application development is open Laszlo, a very interesting framework, open source of course (as is everything above which i have discussed). It would seem to be an open source version of macromedia/adobe's flex. take a look at these various frameworks, make your life easy as a developer. don't grow Grey hairs and lose sleep over code. spend more time at the beach and less time programming.

Best Day at work

So today i went to work, and it was such a cool vibe in the office, the manager and 2 officers were not in office and it was such a cool vibe. nothing but jokes everywhere, though tomorrow people may suffer from all that fun and no work,( and it riegned chaos on the petty peons when the officers returned ).

the battle was fierce but i ubuntu'd victorious :D

so after a day on the battle field of linux bourne again shells and changing runlevels to check if system updates were applied properly i sit, and type on the keys of my newly tamed ubuntu 6.0.6 dapper drake operated dell inspiron 6000. udated this crap using a 256mb connection yes it took forever 8hrs to finish downloading the update files anda bout 45 minutes to apply them. after that my wireless was broken and phpmyadmin wasn't working properly, after digging through my conf.inc.php files for php myadmin and tampering with the blow_fish_secret variable i got php myadmin up, the wifi was way more trouble, tried bcm42xx-fwcutter but to no avail, turns out that it doesn't support my card's drivers (bcmwl5a.inf). so i ended up reverting to ndiswrapper. did this maybe 3 times before getting it properly, but next time my wifi breaks it wont take me more than 1 min to fix cuase i know it inside out :D, after all cli work i was in the mood for scripting so did some php work this lil project i got comming up (tshirt designs previewable via a website :D) and now i need to get food cause i haven't eaten becuase of all this work from morning.

Know you worth

Today I got asked a question by a co-worker and I honestly coulnd't answer it.. it was how do your rank you self as a programmer from 1-10, now this is the profession I went into right after college, left and went into a job like 3 months after with ac ompany called cssjamaica for a year and then like 3 months after that I went to the gleaner and have been there for about 6 months now. and after all that I still couldn't look at my progress and growth as a programmer and give a honest number, I honestly dont know, i've been pondering on the question all day, and came up with 7 on the local market. more than a smart typist for sure, but i'm starting to question if i've lost the passion for programming, has it become something that I just use to get by (paycheck).. I dunnoi need to think about this some more apparently.

Stupid integrated gfx card

Cant seem to do anything thats video memory intensive on my system when in linux reason.. i only have 8mb worth of video memory, the stupid i915 agp card cant be set from the bios so i'm stuck with it as is, when in windows however it works in a dynamic nature, goes up if needed goes down when not being used.

Checking in

nothing really to blog about just blogging for blogging sake and just to do it i'm gonna say the world blog again :D.

recent updates in the linux world ubuntu 6.0.6 (dapper drake) has been officially released so most are scurrying about ot update i'm still running 5.10 (breezy badger), i'll update when i finally get the time. things been going alright at work i guess, however with me i'm not so sure, body dont feel right, planning to head to the doc end of this month see whats going on. hope its nothing more than me worrying about random nothinness.
head from my dad this month, his birthday was on the 1st of july, work has him under pressure, sound like him tired.

another thing to touch on, the world cup, both worldcup foot ball and world cup cricket it has the world going crazy apparently. you can get your latest news for both at http://worldcupindex.com i'm not that much of a sports guy though :(

the last thing i gotta touch on is XMEN 3 THE LAST STAND... WAS THIS MOVIE GOOD HELLZZ EFFING JYEAAHHH....

jean kicked ass, the juggernaut called kitty a bitch. there was killer action for most the flick, it was good over all, there were slight glitches in the story but it was great non the less i hope xmen 4 - 5 and 6 is no less disspaointing (yep theres gonna be a second trilogy) the crappy title "the last stand" just signify's the ending of the pheonix story arc. i'm not sure what 4, 5 and 6 are gonna be about, and then there's the plans for wolverine and magneto to have solo movies. they all better be good,

on the note of xmen kinda funny how intellect got pwned by the mind numbing action of xmen in relation to the davinci code and xmen's performance at the box office i wonder who's gonna contend with the next big super power to be released; that is superman, we wait to see.
